For a decade, Israel has enforced a military blockade over two million Palestinians in Gaza. During the summer of 2017, people in Gaza only had an average of 4 hours of electricity per day.
This microsite scraped publicly available data to display the time periods that five major cities in Gaza had power the day before.
Using data, design and creative messaging, the website offers viewers a unique way to reflect on the length of time they would have had to spend without power.
This microsite accompanied a viral social campaign to “Shine A Light On Gaza” when Israel was throttling their power supply. The campaign was picked up in outlets in Israel/Palestine and the U.S. and gave internationals a creative tool to humanize Palestinians facing a human rights crisis.
